ICT provided mechanical, plumbing and fire protection services for this new 150,000 SF, six-story, $37.5 million building.
Features

- Fume hoods are strategically placed to minimize cost
- Each faculty office serves partly as a “study” and partly as a small laboratory (due to increased emphasis on student design projects and laboratory experiences within ECE curricula)
- Faculty offices arranged in clusters to facilitate interaction
- Office space for 35 faculty, 25 research/visiting faculty, 210 graduate students, 13 administrative personnel, 5 departmental administrators, 2 informational technology professionals, and 8 information technology support personnel
- Ten classrooms (total capacity of 200)
- 13 instructional laboratories (total capacity of 310) Class 1000 clean room
- 40 research laboratories
- 2,500 SF auditorium
- First UT building built for LEED® certification
Challenges
- Special care given to HVAC system due to heat generated in experiments
- HVAC system has ability to maintain constant temperature 24 hours per day, year round
- Designed for heavy use of passenger elevators
- Designed to meet changing needs of Department for next 25-50 years
