Nashville International Airport
Switchgear Upgrade, Phases I, II and III
Nashville, TN
Phase I consisted of replacement of substations 1, 2 and 3. Each substation is dual ended and consists of two 5 kV load interrupter switches, two 1000 kVA transformers, and a main-tie-main 480/277V distribution section. Phase I was completed in July 2012.
Phase II included replacement of two substations, 8 and 9. Each substation is dual ended and consists of (2) 5 kV load interrupter switches, (2) 1000 kVA transformer, and a main-tie-main 480/277V distribution section. The two substations were on the same 4160 volt breaker switch and needed to be replaced together.
Phase III replaces the remaining four (4) substations, substations 4, 5, 6 and 7, for the terminal building. Each substation is dual ended and consists of (2) 5 kV load interrupter switches, (2) 1000 kVA transformer and a main-tie-main 480/277V distribution section. Substations 4 and 5 are on the same 4160 volt breaker switch and needed to be replaced together. Substations 6 and 7 are on the same 4160 volt breaker switch and were replaced together. Coordination efforts with all stakeholders are essential to this project, due to the potential impact to operations of Airlines, TSA, Concessionaires, passenger and the MNAA.
