McWhorter Hall, Pharmacy and Health Sciences Building and Parking Garage
The Health Sciences building houses the Schools of Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, and expansion space for Schools of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Social Work programs. The project includes laboratories for student and faculty research, a licensed state-of-the-art pharmacy, and a four-story underground parking garage.
The facility emphasizes integrated, “hands on” experiential learning components that include a licensed campus pharmacy, which provides services to students, faculty, and staff while also serving as a training site for student pharmacists. Belmont’s School of Pharmacy is unique as it is the only school in the state in which students can gain experience working in a pharmacy developed as a component of the program.
Sustainability:
- Green Roof serving several purposes including a reduction in the heat island effect, natural habitats for wildlife, pollution reduction and irrigation usage.
- Green Roof added insulation value reducing heating and cooling costs.
- A 20,000-gallon water storage tank, which can capture excess ground and storm water for recycling and irrigation that would otherwise be pumped into the storm system.
- A total footprint, including the four-story underground garage, of less than an acre.
