New Central Energy Plant
Gainesville, FL
Located in the northeast corner of the College of Vet Med campus, the new Central Plant is a 20,000 SF building containing electrical power, steam, and chilled water generation assets. The Central Plant includes a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system consisting of a natural gas-fired reciprocating engine generator coupled with a heat recovery steam generator, a boiler plant for supplemental steam generation, and a chilled water plant. The generated electricity is fed back into the campus electrical grid at Substation 6 using new underground electrical ductbanks. New underground steam and chilled water distribution piping supply the Vet Med campus. New natural gas piping is installed from a Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) pipeline. New natural gas distribution piping is included to serve two existing buildings on the UF campus.
