The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts

Greensboro, NC

I.C. Thomasson Associates, Inc. provided full service MPE/IT design for the new 100,000 SF Steven Tanger Performing Arts Center. The venue is designed as a 3,000-seat performance hall featuring two balconies and a partier. It is equipped to support a wide variety of performance types including Broadway, as well as the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. The theater features a state-of-the-art sound system and has an 80-foot-wide x 32-foot-high proscenium.  The stage is 120 feet wide, with a minimum depth of 50 feet. The three-story, glass-enclosed main lobby faces Summit Avenue and has a landscaped plaza designed as a complement to the adjacent LeBauer Park. North Elm Street is activated by a west facade.  The site accommodates a minimum of 250 VIP parking spaces and three service docks. ICT worked closely with the acoustical consultant to achieve an NC20 and incorporated the Myers Sound Constellation Acoustic System. Key elements of the design included acoustically engineered air handling systems, smoke control systems, acoustically isolated electrical infrastructure, electrical systems for theatrical and rigging systems, and performance hall lighting and controls.
