Franklin Road Academy (FRA) is a coeducation independent school in Nashville offering pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students a challenging educational experience. FRA serves 1,085 students, on a 53 acre campus.  The new 29,000 sq. ft. upper school expansion and campus center quad renovation creates open and collaborative spaces that will allow students to connect empowering sharing of experience and ideas.

ICT completed the engineering design for all mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, lighting, power and distribution, low voltage, and Information Transport & Systems Design (IT&S) for the facility. Notable design features of these systems include the following:

• Two-story facility including the following functions: administration offices, conference rooms, registrar, and counseling.
• 5 History Classrooms, 5 English Classrooms, Bradshaw Commons, Broadcasting, two story spaces including Panther Den, and a Dynamic Presentation Space overlooking the quad.
• Emergency Storm Shelter for students and staff.
• Security and Access Control Systems, CCTV

Sustainability Features:

• High-efficiency geothermal heat pump air handlers for space loads.
• High-efficiency geothermal dedicated outdoor air energy recovery system with demand control ventilation.
• Geothermal bore field consisting of 40 closed ground coupled borings, 500 feet deep to provide up to 100 tons of free Renewable Heating and Cooling for the facility.
• 0.64 w/SF lighting design with occupancy/vacancy sensors, daylight sensors, and building lighting control systems.
• Building quad site lighting design reducing light pollution by surpassing uplight and light trespass requirements.
• 32% building energy efficiency and utility savings over ASHRAE 90.1 - 2010 baseline, which would achieve a total of 14 of the available 16 energy performance points under the LEED v3 rating system.
• 25% Domestic water usage reduction utilizing high efficiency plumbing fixtures.
• Enhanced Outdoor Air Quality Strategies with cross-contamination prevention, MERV-13 filtration, increased ventilation, and carbon dioxide monitoring
