Omohundro Water Treatment Plant

Campus Substation and Generation Facility Design

Nashville, TN

ICT is the prime designer responsible for the project to design and provide construction administration services for a new substation and generation facility at the Omohundro Campus. Efforts included all planning and program phase services during the development of the scope of the project, as well as obtaining all permits regulating the air emissions sources.  The campus includes the current Omohundro Water Treatment Plant, Omohundro South buildings, and future wastewater pumping station/equalization basin.  Additional treatment facilities and a business complex are also long term planned site upgrades.

The Omohundro Water Treatment Plant, including the George Reyer Pump Station, currently has two aged substations that are in need of repairs and upgrades. Due to upgrades using modern technology and planned site additions, these substations require replacement with a comprehensive power distribution system capable for existing loads and the anticipated load growth from expansion.  Therefore, the first phase of design and construction consists of a new substation and generation facility providing power to all existing and future facilities, consolidating Electric Utility feeds, as well as a distribution network consisting of redundant looped feeds.

Design work has been completed consisting of a new NES service at 69 KV, redundant 20/28 MVA transformers and associated protection and infrastructure, a 23.9 KV GIS and intelligent networked on-site distribution system, and 10 MW of on-site standby generation to serve the entire 138 acre campus. Design of the estimated $40 million upgrade focused on environmentally friendly construction with emphasis on hardened construction for resiliency and security, and cost effective use of electrical power.
